15 Effective Pick-up Lines

We’ve all heard them, laughed at them, have rarely loved them, but have definitely gagged at them. Let’s face it, pick-up lines are mostly overrated, have an inherent tendency to border on cheesy, and are possibly applicable or appropriate only in romantic comedies and paperback novels. In real life, if you have to resort to clichéd one-liners to initiate conversations with women, it will only reflect your lack of creativity and effort and get you labelled a ‘dunce’.

Women have been known to appreciate approaches that are simple, honest and straightforward, instead of chain forwards and locker-room jokes used as means of conversation-openers. Yet, for the confused, shy, or intimidated, there is help at hand, in the form of top 15 pick-up lines that work as great ice-breakers, ease the tension, and make way for further conversation.

• "Hi!” Or “Hello!” Short, sweet, and simple! An essential opener to any conversation, it is sure to elicit a response.
• “Excuse me, is this seat taken?” A gentlemanly and unobtrusive way of giving a person the option of allowing you to join them.
• “You look like you could use some great conversation…” Appear more than politely interested, and do actually follow it up with decent conversation.

• “Hey there. Didn’t we meet at (insert unusual event or venue)?” No, you didn’t, but if you can get the person intrigued about the crazy location you mentioned, your job is half-done.
• “Do you have a moment to spare for me to flirt with you?” Somewhat cheesy, yes, but also cute. Appear pleasant, and don’t overdo it.
• So what do I have to do to get your number?” Again, borders on cheesy, so exercise some caution!
• “I think you have a beautiful (insert non-derogatory feature) and I wanted you to know.” – A compliment always hits its mark, until you lay it on too thick!
• "I like you, and would like to get to know you.” – The ultimate ‘direct opener’. It conveys honesty, confidence and sincerity… designed to floor!
